News Item: Twins name ex-first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz A-ball manager

For reasons I absolutely can’t explain, the one and only Minnesota Twins jersey I’ve ever owned in my life bears the name of not Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek, Tom Brunansky, Torii Hunter, Johan Santana or Joe Mauer, but rather Doug Mientkiewicz, their first baseman during the team’s initial stab at renewed respectability in the early 2000s. Dougie Baseball is best known to non-Twins fans for catching the final out of the 2004 World Series for the Red Sox, and then getting in a fight with the team over his desire to keep the ball.

I’m just happy that between recently losing weight and now Doug returning to the organization, I can wear the jersey again.
