I can take or leave Thomas Frank- I’ve maintained for years that I’m no fan of “What’s the Matter With Kansas”- but he’s got a great piece in The Baffler this month about Occupy Wall Street and its legacy. What was the problem with Occupy? An over-reliance on academic gobbeldygook:
What we need to be asking about Occupy Wall Street is: Why did this effort fail? How did OWS blow all the promise of its early days? Why do even the most popular efforts of the Left come to be mired in a gluey swamp of academic talk and pointless antihierarchical posturing?
I mean, last Tuesday we saw the greatest liberal electoral victory in decades- and Occupy had just about nothing to do with it.
